About

Anne-Sophie Garrigou is a journalist, a feminist and an environmentalist with a passion for women’s rights, environmental sustainability and for raising awareness for climate action.

In Berlin, she has created The Beam Magazine, a feminist print and digital publication covering the climate crisis and sustainable development. Her main goal with The Beam has always been to create a space for women and minorities to be able to publish their research, present their innovations and express their opinions and experiences of the climate emergency. Together with these incredible experts and contributors from all over the globe, they produced a magazine that wasn’t the usual “conversation between 40-year-old white peers” that we can be found everywhere else.

Anne-Sophie was born and raised in a village of about 300 people in the south of France. Think patriarchal culture and traditional values. She left the countryside to study journalism, first in Tours (France) then in Greeley (Colorado, USA) and gained her first work experience in London, where she interned for the Agence France Presse (AFP). She later moved to Paris and worked as a documentary author (Arte, MC4 Production), photojournalist and video editor (Enfin Bref Production, Troisième Oeil Production). She also produced her own documentary (America’s Daydream) with her friend Alejandro Alamo, who she met in a documentary class at the University of Northern Colorado. The 52’ movie was broadcasted on local TV channels in the U.S. and in France. After a few years working as a freelance journalist, Anne-Sophie decided to move to European startup capital Berlin, and was hired to create The Beam Magazine in February 2016.

Through her articles and editorial choices, Anne-Sophie has given a voice to many activists, entrepreneurs, researchers and leaders who weren’t given one elsewhere and met some of her most inspiration along the way.

Anne-Sophie authors articles and op-eds and has contributed to numerous publications including Cleantechnica, The Hundert, Clean Energy Wire, FairPlanet. She has also been speaking to conferences and events on the topic of ecofeminism, communications and climate change.
